Community Internship
CHS 195 is a community internship under the sponsorship of the Student Development Health Education Unit. Students assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the “Life Skills Program,” which fosters development of emotional, social, and cultural competencies shown in research to promote academic success of undergraduate students. Students also work as peer mentors for students enrolled in the CHS 179: Life Skills for College Women and Men course. As peer mentors students support the course section leader by fulfilling administrative duties, participating in class discussions and activities, providing feedback on student work, and completing other duties as assigned. In addition, students continually assess their growth and development as it relates to their experience as course leaders. Students meet on a regular basis with a course section leader to review progress and provide periodic reports of their experience in the form of weekly journals and a final summative report.
To enroll, students must pass the CHS 179 course and complete a written application.
